Endangered Species Chloride Threshold Study

The Endangered Species Chloride Threshold Study will determine the level of chloride that is protective of endangered species (ES) in the Upper Santa Clara River.
The study will begin with an assessment of resident endangered species and a review of existing methodologies for developing aquatic life thresholds. The study will use this information to develop a model for determining threshold level of chloride will be protective of endangered species. If necessary, the study will conduct additional testing of resident ES or surrogate species.
In combination with the results of the other Chloride TMDL studies, the Endangered Species Chloride Threshold Study may be used by the Regional Board to develop a site-specific chloride objective for the affected reaches of the Upper Santa Clara River Watershed.
